Pickens Hall

  • Pickens Hall, Heuvelton, NY 83 North State Street Heuvelton, NY, 13654 United States (map)

The Madstop Fiddlers (Potsdam spelled backwards) is a multi-generational ensemble composed of the fiddle students of NYS Fiddlers Hall of Fame Inductee (2012) Gretchen Koehler. The Madstop Fiddlers, whose ages range from 6 to 93 provide tunes for dancing, host jams and educate audiences as they enthusiastically share Old Time Fiddle music around the North Country. This special showcase will highlight nearly 30 of the Madstop Fiddlers. Joining the group will be NYS Fiddlers Hall of Fame inductee (1987) fiddler Don Woodcock.

The concert will feature dozens of "Old Time Fiddle Hits" including Red Wing, Down Yonder and Ashokan Farewell. The tunes will be played in three-part harmony as featured on Koehler & Woodcock's popular CD, "The Fiddlers Three." In addition to old time fiddle music, the Madstop Fiddlers will also present some show stopping trick & fancy/novelty fiddling as well as a few Irish tunes to celebrate St. Paddy's Day. The concert promises to be fun for audiences from preschoolers to grandparents.

This is music that likely played in our opera hall over 150 years ago, and we are expecting it to be a real treat.
Admission is by donation. Sponsored by the Heuvelton Historical Association.
