Don Woodcock and Gretchen Koehler will perform foot tapping, hand clapping music from our French Canadian and Irish north country traditions Sat. June 9 from 7-9 at the Meetinghouse Museum, 696 E, DeKalb Rd. DeKalb Junction. The concert is sponsored by the DeKalb Historical Association and admission is free.

Both Don and Gretchen long family traditions of fiddle music. As a boy Don played the fiddle with his father at local dances. He continued to play throughout his life and became the Grand Champion Fiddler of New York State and was inducted into the New York State Fiddlers Hall of Fame.

Gretchen was introduced to contest fiddling early in life and through the years she has won championships in nine states and three provinces of Canada. As her family traveled the Northeast, she gained knowledge of fiddle styles such as Old Time, Contra Dance, Celtic and Quebecois music.

The concert is part of the performance series held each year by the DeKalb Historical Association. The project is made possible in part with funds from the Decentralization Program, a regrant program of the New York State Council on the Arts, with the support of Governor Andrew Cuomo and the New York State Legislature and administered by the St. Lawrence County Arts Council.
