The North Country Folk Orchestra is a new instrumental ensemble that plays a wide variety of fiddle tunes popular in the North Country, including music from the USA, Canada, the British Isles and beyond. This multi-generational gathering welcomes beginning to advance players who are comfortable with their folk instruments: dulcimers, fiddles, flutes, banjos, mandolins, guitars, ukuleles, and basses. Orchestral strings, woodwind and brass instruments are welcome. Electric instruments will be considered by the musical director. Participants will learn relaxed and creative arrangements that support both readers and those that play “by ear”.
Youthful participants under the age of 18 are encouraged to register.
Gretchen Koehler is musical director. Barb Heller is assistant instructor, and multi-instrumentalist high-school student Eric Choi serves as student apprentice.
